Prints

Lately, I have been exploring printmaking.  The carving of blocks and printing is a very engaging process. An edition can take a lot of time but I find it almost meditative to work on prints.

Since I usually have done individual paintings or pastel drawings, some of those have inspired me to do monoprints  of the images and experiment with different patterns or colors.  I have used many different surfaces to carve, from plywood to linoleum to foam blocks, each of these having their own characteristics.  Water based inks are primarily used in my process, but I have used acrylic paint with some success.  Each print is always a surprise and sometimes after a few misses there will be a “happy accident” which is part of the fun!

Japanese prints are an inspiration in my work.  While it would probably take many years to approach the expertise that they represent I am satisfied with at least sharing the same sensibilities and reverence for nature.  There is a common spirituality that I try to express.  Hopefully, upon reflection, the viewer can appreciate these qualities in my prints.
