Ray Wengenroth Art

About me
This work represents a journey begun by being surrounded by paintings and prints, mostly by members of my family, that led to the pursuit of my own art. Most of my training began at Colgate University with professor Jim Loveless, who remains a painting partner on trips to Monhegan and out west. A MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design completed the official education experience.
After graduate school I was able to work with art students at a small city college in Baltimore while my wife, Leslie, completed her own MFA at Maryland Institute. Moving to NYC seemed a logical step after that experience and loft living became our reality. During this exciting time in the city we more or less accepted plan “B” in order to afford the artistic life in New York. I began a business with a partner designing and building lofts.
Being self-employed has enabled me to have enough freedom to produce art while moving to the “burbs” and raising our two children. Now, in retirement I maintain a studio and a workshop where I look after an art collection and continue to enjoy the art experience. I am inspired by summer visits to our cottage in Downeast Maine as well as living near the ocean in Beverly, Massachusetts. Trips to the Southwest desert and to Southern France have exposed me to a very different scenery that has sparked much of my art.
